1. Misconception: All wood burns the same

2. Misconception: All smoke means the fire is working

Reality: Thick, dark smoke indicates an incomplete combustion which means your fire isn’t burning efficiently. A proper burning fire produces minimal, light coloured smoke.

3. Misconception: All wood burners are efficient
Reality: In Australia, We have strict emission standards. A wood heater installed prior to August 8th, 2019 may need to be upgraded to meet the Australian Standards. All Scandia wood heaters meet the Australian Standards – look for the Burnwise information (as pictured) on each product page.

4. Misconception: burning wood increases the Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere.

Reality: Wood burning can be carbon-neutral when sustainably managed. The CO2 released from burning wood is offset by the CO2 absorbed by the trees during their growth.

5. Misconception: fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas are renewable unlike wood.
Reality:
Wood is a renewable resource. Trees can be replanted and managed sustainably to provide a continuous supply of wood for heating.
