When investing in a wood heater, it’s essential to remember that it’s not just a heating appliance; it’s a significant component of your home’s infrastructure and aesthetics. To ensure a safe and efficient heating experience with your Scandia Wood Heater, there are some essential products you’ll need to purchase in addition to the heater itself.
The Must-Haves
Flue Kit: This is the most crucial component for safe wood heater operation. The flue kit connects the heater to the chimney, allowing smoke and gases to escape safely. Ensure you select either our Scandia Black Mesh Flue Kit or Scandia Sleek Black Flue Kit which will be compatible with your Scandia wood heater.
Flashing: a metal sheet is installed around the chimney base to prevent rainwater from entering the chimney and causing damage. Flashing should be professionally installed to ensure it’s watertight and secure. For your convenience Scandia has engineered two different types of roof flashing. Available at Bunnings Warehouse you can choose between the Scandia tile roof flashing suitable for tiled roofs or Scandia iron roof flashing suitable for Colourbond roofs and the likes.
Hearth (Depending on Flooring Type):
A hearth is a non-combustible surface placed in front of the heater to protect your flooring from heat damage and sparks. Determining if you need a hearth depends on your flooring material. If your flooring material is combustible (carpet, wood etc) you will need to ensure your Scandia wood fire is situated on one of our stylish Hearth Pads.
Perfect additions
While not strictly necessary, these items can significantly enhance your wood heating experience.
Heater Safety Guard: A safety guard is a metal mesh screen that surrounds the heater, preventing accidental contact and reducing the risk of burns for your loved ones. We have a range of Heater Guards that will suit common install styles.
Wood Storage: Having a designated wood storage area will keep your firewood dry and organized. Our Elegant Rectangular 1000 is just one of many stylish wood storage solutions we offer that will aesthetically compliment your wood fire.
Tool Set: Our Classic fire tool set is essential for safely managing and maintaining your Scandia wood fire. With a sturdy poker for adjusting logs, a brush and shovel for efficient cleaning, and tongs for safe handling of hot materials, this set helps keep your fireplace clean and well-organised.
By investing in these essential products, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy the warmth and comfort of your wood heater for the winter season ahead.
Remember your wood heater must be installed by a qualified person whose work conforms with local council regulations, Australian standards & manufacturers recommendations. Failure to do so will void your Scandia warranty and could possibly void any home insurance.
